Quick reference: Amazon image sizes

Use this table as your cheat sheet across every Amazon placement. The main image rules are strict; additional images and A+ modules give you more creative freedom, but keeping them large and consistent still gives the sharpest result.

Placement Recommended size Aspect ratio Notes
Main image 1,600 × 1,600 px 1:1 Pure white background (RGB 255, 255, 255), product fills ~85% of the frame
Additional images 1,600 × 1,600 px 1:1 Lifestyle shots and infographics allowed; backgrounds can vary
A+ content (standard image) ~970 px wide Varies Height depends on the module; widths vary by layout
A+ full-width image 970 × 600 px Landscape Used in full-width image and image-with-text modules
Brand Story 463 × 1,150 px Portrait Per-module image inside the Brand Story carousel
Video thumbnail 1,600 × 900 px 16:9 Cover frame for product and A+ videos

Main image requirements

The main image is the one buyers see in search results and at the top of your listing, and it has the strictest rules. It must be at least 1,000 px on the longest side for the pinch-to-zoom feature to activate — below that, zoom is disabled and conversions suffer. Amazon recommends 1,600 px or larger, so 1,600 × 1,600 px is the safe target. The background must be pure white (RGB 255, 255, 255), the frame must show only the product with no props, text or logos, and the product should fill at least 85% of the frame. Save it as a JPEG for the best quality-to-size ratio. You can resize a photo to 1,600 × 1,600 px and set a pure white background before uploading.

Additional (secondary) images

You can add up to 8–9 additional images per listing depending on category. Unlike the main image, these can use varied backgrounds and are the place to show the product from other angles, demonstrate scale, present lifestyle scenes, and add infographics that call out features and dimensions. Keep them the same 1,600 × 1,600 px square as the main image so the gallery stays consistent, and use the extra slots to answer the questions buyers ask before purchase.

A+ Content image sizes

A+ Content (available to Brand Registered sellers) is module-dependent: each layout has its own image slots, so there is no single size. Common widths cluster around 970 px for standard modules, with full-width image modules at 970 × 600 px and Brand Story per-module images at 463 × 1,150 px. Because Amazon serves these to both desktop and mobile, always upload at the maximum size the module accepts and let Amazon downscale. Before publishing, run your gallery through the compliance check to catch sizing and background issues.

File format and file size

JPEG is the preferred format for Amazon product images — it gives the best quality-to-size ratio and is accepted across every placement. PNG and TIFF are also supported, but reserve PNG for cases that genuinely need it. Keep individual files reasonable — under a few megabytes — so listings load fast; there is no benefit to uploading an unoptimised 20 MB file. For the full set of rules beyond dimensions, see our Amazon product image requirements rulebook.

Rule of thumb: shoot or generate a 2,000 px master image of your product, then export a 1,600 px pure-white main image from it plus your lifestyle and infographic secondaries. One master downsizes cleanly to every Amazon placement while keeping your product perfectly centred.
